Here is a photo of my original Novice station, the Tempo One, from 1979. Below that is a photo of thee brand-new Tempo One I purchased on Ebay recently. My original logbook from 1979 is also still intact and in the new photo, along with a similar brass straight key on a wooden base.
The brand new, unused Tempo One SSB Transceiver with the matching AC-ONE Speaker/Power Supply arrived safely today, packed by the UPS Store. As you can see in the photos, it still has the inspection tag on it! Here are some photos along with a video I made of the unpacking and the story behind it. This is a great story. I have been looking for a Tempo One black-face transceiver for awhile now in order to re-create my original Novice station KA1CCA from 1979. Today on Ebay, I found someone selling both NEW and UNUSED!!. Check out what the seller told me: "That thing has been in my Moms house for probably 40 years. My Dad bought it but never had a chance to use it. He passed away at 54 yrs old. We didn't even know what it was, and kept moving it from place to place. Mom passed and I am getting ready to sell the house. It is the last thing to go. I almost threw it away but I thought I would try my hand at EBay. Thank you for being patient with me." Originally it was listed for Local Pickup Only but I didn't see that note and paid for it, and the lady was kind enough to agree to have it packed up at UPS and ship it to me. And the best part? I paid only $325.00 for both the transceiver and the power supply. I have reserved a new space in my shack for this re-creation of my old Novice station KA1CCA and will share photos when it is ready.
I sold my Ten-Tec Orion II station on Ebay, and purchased a Flex 6400M transceiver used and received it the other day. I also ordered and received a used Heil PR781 microphone with a Heil CB-1 PTT base, and a pair of Bose Companion II Series Speakers. Also shown is my Astatic Golden Eagle microphone. Here is a photo of the setup:
My Drake R4C receiver is back from the shop! Here it is with the TR4C and MS4 speaker/AC4 power supply. The TR4C had also been given the full treatment by WB4HFN about a year ago. Below are photos with and without the vinyl covers.
I decided to pull the trigger on a Flex 6400M. I found a ham - W8CRH - selling his on QTH.com and went for it. Here is a manufacturer's picture of the unit. Pics of my unit will be forthcoming as soon as it arrives. I have placed my Ten-Tec Omni VII up for sale on the boards.
I shipped out the Drake R4C Receiver to get the full-service option and a case repaint. It will look beautiful with my TR4C. Photos to come as soon as I receive it back from Ron, WB4HFN.
I purchased a 2nd 21" Imac (2009 model) for use as a 2nd display for my 2017 Imac, and as a second stand-alone computer for use as an SDR. Pictures to come.
I received the used Ten-Tec Omni VII the other day. Shown here is the setup with the Ten-Tec 707 Microphone. I also purchased a matching Ten-Tec 307 Speaker. This rig has the IF output mod done by Ten-Tec for use with a panadapter/SDR.
Here is the Drake TR4C, MS4 speaker w/ built-in AC4 power supply, the MN4 antenna tuner, and a restored D-104 microphone w/o the preamp.. The space is for the soon-to-be-arriving Drake R4C.
I decided to part with my Kenwood TS590SG Anniversary Edition, along with the Kenwood/Vibroplex Cube Anniv Paddle, and the Kenwood external speaker to help fund my other purchases. It's a great rig but I am going all Ten-Tec and Drake.
I found someone selling a Ten-Tec Omni VII in excellent condition with all of the filters, and bought it! (photo below) I plan to use this as my digital mode radio, and have put the Kenwood TS590SG Anniversary Edition w/ paddle & speaker up for sale. I will post a photo of the radio set up in my shack upon receipt.
I found someone (W4ALF) selling a fully-restored Drake TR4C transceiver, MS4 speaker, AC4 power supply, MN4 antenna tuner, and D104 microphone, and purchased the set. I also found someone selling a Drake R4C receiver and purchased that! Pics are below. Full pix of the entire station will be forthcoming when they are received.
I found someone selling a NEVER USED Tokyo Hy-Power 400W solid state HF amplifier, and I bought it. They haven't made these in a few years. I paired it with a Tenma 72-7655 60A Power Supply to use to power the amp, which is identical to the Tokyo Hy-Power HP-460 power supply intended for this amp.
I found a used Ten-Tec TT302 External Decorder/Keypad for sale and pulled the trigger. Here it is below:
Here are the replacement certificates for DXCC (300 countries) and IOTA (400 islands) that I recently updated my scores on.
